Persona (AI characters) Phantom Pro

Give your server a resident character. A Persona is an AI-driven personality — its name, traits, tone, backstory, and gif habits are all yours to define — that lives in the channels you choose, joins conversations, reacts to images and gifs, and posts gifs of its own.

Billed via prepaid credits

Personas run on prepaid Phantom AI credits — the same wallet as the Auto-Assist ticket helper, on top of the Phantom Pro subscription. Buy a credit pack from the dashboard; credits are per-server, prepaid, and never expire. When the wallet is empty the character simply goes quiet until you top up — nothing breaks, nothing bills automatically.

What it does

  • Speaks as itself. Replies are delivered through a channel webhook under the persona's own name and avatar — the character reads as a member of the room, not as Phantom doing voices. (Needs the bot's Manage Webhooks permission; without it, replies fall back to normal bot messages.)
  • Chats in character. Personality, traits, tone, backstory, reply length, emoji habits — configured per persona, followed closely.
  • Feels human. It paces replies like someone actually reading and typing, and keeps short-term memory of the room's recent chatter.
  • Holds a conversation. Answer it by @mention, by replying to its messages, by name, or just by continuing the exchange — once it's talking with you, it keeps the thread going for a while without needing to be re-addressed, and bows out when the conversation clearly moves on.
  • Knows the room. It reads recent channel messages for context (including scrolling back through real history after a restart), so replies land in the flow of the conversation instead of answering messages in a vacuum.
  • Remembers what matters. Over time it collects a small set of durable facts — running jokes, who's who, ongoing projects — and weaves them into future chats. Memories are capped, visible on the dashboard, and wipeable with one click.
  • Sends gifs. When a reaction genuinely calls for one, the character picks a Tenor gif to match — how often is your call (never / sometimes / often).
  • Understands gifs and images. Drop a gif, an image, or a Tenor link and the character actually sees it and reacts to the content, not just the text around it.
  • Stays safe. Personas are strictly PG-13 regardless of how they're written or provoked. They can never ping @everyone, @here, roles, or users; they can't moderate or take any server action; they're honest about being an AI when sincerely asked; members can't rewrite their instructions by talking at them; they refuse age-restricted channels, respect your server's ignore list, and drop the act to respond with care if someone appears to be in real distress.

Where it lives

Dashboard: Engagement → Personas — a full character editor (personality, backstory, traits, avatar, gif/emoji habits), channel bindings with per-channel reply tuning, the module master switch, and the live credit balance with a persona-only 30-day spend figure. Everything is also available from the /ppersona slash commands for staff who prefer to stay in Discord.

Setup

  1. Upgrade to Phantom Pro.

  2. Make sure the server has Phantom AI credits (dashboard → Phantom AI → Buy credits).

  3. Create a character on the dashboard (Engagement → Personas → New persona), or from Discord:

/ppersona create name:Spooky personality:A mischievous resident ghost who has haunted this server for centuries and has opinions about everything. traits:playful, dramatic, secretly kind gifs:often
  4. Give it a home:

    /ppersona bind name:Spooky channel:#general mode:Only when mentioned or addressed

That's it — binding a channel switches the Persona module on automatically. Members can now @mention the bot, reply to it, or say the persona's name, and the character answers.

Reply modes

Set per channel with /ppersona bind:

ModeBehaviour
Mentioned or addressed (default)Replies when the bot is @mentioned, replied to, or the persona is called by name. Predictable, cheapest.
Join freelyAlso jumps into ambient conversation. Two brakes keep this affordable: chance (what % of messages it considers, default 25) and cooldown (minimum seconds between ambient replies, default 30). Direct addresses always get an answer.

Tuning the character

Everything is editable after creation with /ppersona edit:

SettingWhat it controls
avatarAn https image URL used as the character's face (webhook identity).
personalityThe core of who they are. Write it like a character brief.
traitsComma-separated quick descriptors ("sarcastic, loves cats, gamer").
toneHow they speak ("dry and deadpan", "bubbly", "formal butler").
backstoryLore the character knows about itself.
languageReply language, if not English.
verbosityshort (default — real chat-message length), medium, long.
emoji_usagenever / sometimes / often.
gif_usagenever / sometimes / often.

/ppersona toggle pauses a character everywhere without losing its config; /ppersona list shows every persona and where it chats.

Limits: 5 personas and 10 bound channels per server.

Costs

Each reply consumes Phantom AI credits based on the actual tokens used — a typical short reply costs a fraction of a credit. You only pay for messages that actually appear in your channels: turns where the character chose to stay quiet, hit a hiccup, or couldn't deliver cost you nothing. /ppersona credits shows the live balance; the dashboard's Phantom AI audit pane breaks spend down by feature, so you can see exactly what Personas vs Auto-Assist are using.

Cost controls are layered so a busy channel can't drain the wallet by surprise:

  • reply chance and cooldown per channel in free-join mode
  • a per-server cap on persona replies per minute
  • an empty wallet means silence, never overdraft billing

What it can't do

  • Take actions in your server (no moderation, no roles, no channel changes — it only chats)
  • Ping anyone (all mentions are stripped, always)
  • Read channels it isn't bound to
  • Remember full conversations forever (it keeps a rolling short-term transcript plus a small, capped list of durable facts — never verbatim logs, and never secrets or personal details)

FAQ

Can I have different characters in different channels? Yes — each channel binds to one persona, and you can run up to 5 personas across 10 channels.

Do persona replies use the same credits as Auto-Assist? Yes, one shared wallet per server. Usage rows are tagged by feature so the audit pane can split them.

What happens when we run out of credits? The character goes quiet. No errors in chat, no surprise charges. Top up and it picks the conversation back up.

Does it work with a custom-branded bot? Yes — personas speak through whichever bot identity your server runs.

Phantom is a product of Hydra Labs. The bot is run as a managed service; you do not need to host it yourself.
